    Bill,

Hate to bother you. I live 348 Clifton ave. I would like to know what is wrong with our trash pickup service. It’s been almost a month and they still haven’t picked up my recycebles. They pick up your side of the street and sometimes don’t come back to do my side. It’s really a shame they used to do a great job, but ever since the Mayor told them they have to work their regular hours, it’s like some kind of work slow down, or are they trying some power struggle thing! I called up the department a few times. It’s a shame it makes our city look like a dump. There are alot of people who take care of their properties, I even sweep the debri in the street. So if you can inform me if there are some negotiations going on between the city and the sanitation dept. I would appreciate it.

Yes, Joe, I do appreciate your frustration. The Council met with DPW Superintendent Schupp last night, who agreed to temporarily suspend capital improvement operations until the city is caught up in its yard waste collection.

    Bill,

Thank you for answering my letter. I saw the article in the paper today. My main concern is the recycables. They pick them up every 2 weeks. I think that they should change the pickup of newspapers to every 2 weeks and recycables every week. With bottles and cans that may not be cleaned thoroughly it might attract rodents or bugs, and sometimes wind up on the road being blown over by the wind. A few times while taking my morning walk I have cleaned up broken glass from the streets. With newpapers how much papers do you accumulate in 2 weeks. I presently put my papers out every 2 weeks. We definately need to maintain our roads. I understand something has to suffer , but I think the recycables should be a top priority.

    Thanks again Joe

You bet, Joe, and I’ll look into your idea. Congrats by the way in being the first commenter on this blog!

    Bill,
I am a Kingston resident within your ward. When the city repaved in front of the YMCA, they forgot one important thing, painting of the lines. Twice now i have been traveling east on Broadway , and at the intersection of Grand St, and Pine Grove, i have been cut off by a vehicle going straight in a lane that use to be marked trun only. This intersection use to be 3 lanes, 1 lane marked turn only as indicated by the sign on the overhead light, the 2nd lane is straight to continue on Broadway and the 3rd is to make the right onto Pine Grove. About a week ago i called Kingston DPW and asked the dispatcher when they will paint the lines on the road, she took my number and said she would ask the Superintendent and get back to me. The dispatcher called me back shortly after and told me they were hoping to get to it shortly, but if they did not get to it within the week it would have to wait til Spring do to the temperatures. Normally and answer like that i would be fine with, but then i remebered every March the city does not have a problem with the temperatures painting a green line down Broadway and a big shamrock in front of City Hall.
    Thanks for listening
    Matt

    Hi Bill,
Parking in the winter time is hard enough in the city. To put meters in city lots would make it impossible for some of us to legaly park anywhere in the city. I believe it will also be harder for the city to plow as some people would be less likely to move thier cars off the street. I know it’s a revenue stream, but it hurts those who don’t have off street parking, the poor, the most. The mayor should know we are all ” trying to stay afloat.”
    Thanks Bill

    Hey Bill-
I know I have contacted you about this issue before and you replied that it was being worked on and in fact you were experiencing the same issue but 2 weeks later and here we go again-today was recycle pick up day and guess what? no pick up so mine is still sitting out on the street. Nothing was picked up on Hasbrouck, Delaware or surrounding area’s from just taking a drive through. Haven’t had a pick up in over 2 months now. The city threatens us with fines if we don’t recycle and then the don’t pick up-really starting to get pissed. If they need someone to effectively manage that department let me know I’m sure I could do a better job than who ever is in charge now. This really needs to be taken care of.
    Thanks

My recyclables are still out there on the street, too, and I am running out of containers to put them in. I will again talk to the mayor and DPW superintendent about this.
